On Friday, November 20, three students from the class of 2017—Nhu Vo, Courtney Couture, and Alana Dougherty—brought the “You’ve got my whole world in your hands” environmental campaign to Saint Joseph’s College, drawing members of the community to focus on creating a platform for the youth of the world to raise awareness about the dangers of global warming.
The campaign was started by 350 Maine, whose mission it is to help solve our planet’s environmental crises. To help integrate the Saint Joseph’s College community into the campaign, the three students hosted a gathering on campus in which the participants posed for a photo while holding a sign that reads, “You’ve got my whole world in your hands.” The photo was posted to Instagram, the campaign’s social media platform.
The students hope their campaign’s work will be made visible to leaders attending the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris, France.
Dougherty explains that it is vital to have the voices of the youth be heard. She says that the student community of Saint Joseph’s College has worked to improve the sustainability and environmental impact of the College. Saint Joseph’s College, in recent years, has built a reputation as a community with a vast outreach in regards to the environment. Dougherty expresses, “We want to make a stand for our future and say that we need change.”
