New College Café Named After Baggot Street, Dublin.

In October, Saint Joseph’s College celebrated the grand opening of Baggot Street—a spacious new café and gathering spot in the Heffernan Center. Named for the Dublin location where Catherine McAuley founded the first House of Mercy in 1827, the café embodies the spirit of inclusiveness, hospitality, and respect. In the words of Sister Sylvia Comer, who spoke at the opening, “Baggot Street is a sign of our Mercy heritage for years to come.”
Stuart Leckie, manager of Pearson’s Café and senior director of sustainable enterprises at the College, thinks the new dining option is fantastic. “The kids will be excited for a trendy gathering place on campus,” he said. “It has its own identity. It’s not the Chalet. It’s not the Mercy Market. It’s Baggot Street.”
“The setting is truly unique,” said Lauren Sharples ’17. “I think it will bring the community closer together and make students feel like they have a place where they can always go.”
