A Meaningful Athletic Experience
This one goes out to our fantastic student-athletes. Newly named Director of Athletics Will Sanborn is here with details about how we will build our Monks championship culture, even in the face of tough decisions and an unusual season.
A few highlights:
Fall Move-In. Unlike past years, student athletes will not move back to campus early. Everyone will move in with the general student population. First-year students will move in on Thursday, August 20th, and upperclassman will return to campus on Sunday, August 23rd. More details about move-in will be available in the next few weeks from Student Life.
Safety. Student athletes are leaders on campus. We will need you to be the example for everyone in following safety guidelines across the College, and in following the recommendations we set up for each of our teams. Our primary goal is a safe and meaningful return to athletic participation on our campus.
Challenging Learning Environment. We’re still exploring the possibility of limited outside competition, but the focus of our coaching staff will be to provide a challenging learning environment for our student athletes. Whatever happens this year, you can be sure that your skills will be developed, and that you will have enhanced opportunities to grow as a leader.
Strength and Conditioning. You will immediately feel our increased commitment to Strength and Conditioning programs this year. We have hired 2015 Saint Joseph’s College alum Jameson Collins as our Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, and Assistant Athletic Trainer Zach Chase will also move into a new role as Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach.
The adaptations that our student-athletes will make are part of the broader changes that will be part of life at SJC this year. As critical members of our community-first campus, we thank you for helping us prepare with purpose to keep each other safe and healthy. Thank you!
