After offering concentrations in each area for over 10 years, we have combined the two programs into this integrated major. This degree will prepare teachers for 21st Century classrooms, where children with varying abilities learn together. You will take the entire elementary education program and the entire special education program. Then choose to student teach in either field,  or be dual certified by student teaching in both.

Core content is shared so fewer credits are completed overall, but a student cannot finish either degree early.

- [Haley Nanning](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/haley-nanning/): Haley Nannig is originally from Rhode Island and has lived in Maine for more than a decade. She is an interdisciplinary artist and Assistant Professor of Fine Arts at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. Outside of teaching, she works out of her studio at the Dana Warp Mill in Westbrook, Maine.
- [Jordynne Copp, BSN, RN, CCRN](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/jordynne-copp-2/): Jordynne is a 2018 graduate of Saint Joseph’s College of Maine with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a 2026 graduate with a Master of Science in Nursing Education. She began her nursing career in an intensive care unit, where she quickly discovered a passion for teaching and helping others grow in their nursing practice. Her love of education eventually led her to become an ICU educator before joining Saint Joseph’s College of Maine.
- [Yu Ping Hu](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/yu-ping-hu-2/): Most of all, she is a proud alumna who graduated in 2015. Before coming back to SJC (which is home to her), she worked in other laboratories testing well water and assisting workflow for specimens. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, caring for her cute pets, and gardening.
- [Jeff Morris](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/jeff-morris-2/): Jeff Morris is an Instructor of Mathematics holding a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education. Combining a strong analytical background with real-world perspective drawn from growing up in a family of ten and working as a longshoreman, Jeff specializes in making mathematics approachable and meaningful for students of all backgrounds.
- [Rachel Cooper](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/rachel-cooper-2/): Rachel is a graduate of Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, where she earned both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing Education. Her nursing career has taken her through a variety of settings, including urgent care, maternity, ambulatory care, and long-term care. It was through these experiences that she discovered how much she enjoyed teaching others and eventually found her way into nursing education.
- [Kathryn Patenaude](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/kathryn-patenaude-2/): Kathryn Patenaude is an assistant professor in the Biology department at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, having taught Microbiology lecture and lab, Medical Microbiology lecture and lab, Cell biology lecture and lab, as well as introductory biology II lab. She has also been involved with student research at the college, specializing in projects involving microbes and/or zebrafish. Prior to her time at St. Joe’s, she has taught a variety of science courses at different Maine colleges, including Organic Chemistry, Human Anatomy & Physiology, General Chemistry for non-majors, and Infectious Disease. Professor Patenaude’s research primarily focuses on interactions between the bacterium Streptococcus agalactiae and the fungus Candida albicans, two microbes that pose enhanced risks for mothers and their newborn children. Professor Patenaude continues to research how interactions between these two microbes influences under different growth conditions their ability to grow and withstand antimicrobial treatment in vitro, as well as in vivo using both neonatal and adult zebrafish models.
- [Kiley Breitenfeld, MSN, RN, CNE, OCN](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/kiley-breitenfeld-msn-rn-cne-ocn/): Kiley has a background in oncology as an infusion and access registered nurse administering chemotherapy and managing patient symptoms. Working in oncology is the most fulfilling and rewarding role as a nurse and human Kiley could describe, as it alters your way of thinking, acting, and living that both strengthens you and fills your heart. This professional work experience enhanced her personal health journey, building resilience and centering on her values and morals. She always enjoyed education and found a subject she was passionate about in nursing. To fulfill her dream of teaching, she earned her master's degree and shares her clinical knowledge with students in various nursing courses throughout the program. Her focus is on educating future nurses to be well-rounded, competent, critical thinkers to meet the evolving public needs.
- [Gregory Wadsworth](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/gregory-wadsworth/): Gregory A. Wadsworth is an assistant professor of criminal justice at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. He actively conducts research and presents at national conferences on topics including the influence of media on crime, perceptions of crime and justice, and fear of crime. Before arriving at Saint Joseph’s College, he taught courses at the University of New Haven. In the classroom, he emphasizes experiential learning and thorough in-class discussion; outside the classroom, he has worked with students to prepare conference submissions, earn unique internship opportunities, and conduct independent research. At Saint Joseph’s College, he teaches scientific methods & quantitative analysis, juvenile justice, crime & justice in the media, victimology, case law, and other criminal justice courses.

- [Lori Tambasco](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/lori-tambasco/): I am a dedicated healthcare leader with more than 30 years of hands-on experience in the healthcare field. Throughout my career, I have demonstrated innovation and a strong focus on customer service as an administrator, specializing in various aspects of long-term care. As a Licensed New York State Nursing Home Administrator, I have held a wide range of roles in both acute and long-term care settings, building a comprehensive understanding of organizational healthcare operations. My key strengths include excellent customer service, expertise in healthcare finance, experience with human resource management, emergency preparedness and safety, OSHA compliance, Life Safety, as well as streamlining operations and strategic planning. I also have experience in activity and event planning, effective communication, problem solving, project management, and oversight of major construction projects and building maintenance. Staff development and a deep familiarity with the regulatory survey process are additional areas of strength.

Dr. Blake graduated from Providence School of Nursing in Mobile, Alabama, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama, a Master of Science in Nursing from University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a Doctor of Education from NOVA Southeastern University. - [Dr. Dale Brooker](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/dr-dale-brooker/): Dale Brooker’s teaching and subsequent research started in an unusual place: a Texas prison. Early on, he taught sociology courses to students (who happened to be incarcerated) in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. His experiences there have shaped his subsequent teaching style and his research focus on corrections, prisons, and the reentry process. Professor Brooker is an avid hiker and enjoys exploring the various trails in Maine and in New Hampshire. According to Professor Brooker, “You can often find me on a trail with my dog, a Yellow Labrador named Sir Winston. I’m a huge baseball fan in general, and much to most students’ dismay, I am a New York Yankees fan!” His other interests include playing poker and board games with family and friends.
- [President Joseph L. Cassidy](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/president-joseph-l-cassidy/): Joseph L. Cassidy, JD is the 15th President of Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. He has been involved in education for more than 30 years, serving students as an elementary school teacher, high school teacher, college professor, and for 10 years as a college President in the Maine Community College System. He joined Saint Joseph’s in 2023 following five successful years as President of SMCC, Maine’s largest community college with more than 6,000 students. He was previously president of Washington County Community College (WCCC) for five years, and for one year as interim president of Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor.
- [Kareem Myrick](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/kareem-myrick/): Kareem, a 2005 graduate of SJC brings a level of knowledge and dedication to his role in coordinating Admissions events and Community Outreach. His engaging approach invigorates activities with a spirit of community and belonging.
- [Megan Levesque](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/megan-levesque/): Megan, a 2018 graduate of the B.S. in Communications with a focus in New Media program from Saint Joseph’s College, worked in the athletics department for five and a half years after graduation. She held titles such as Assistant Sports Information Director for her first two years under the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Grant, which provides funding for entry-level administrative positions to encourage the long-term success of ethnic minorities and women. After being hired full time after the two year stint she was then named Athletics Operations & Sports Information Manager. In this position Levesque watched over 65+ students, ran the athletics social media, was a game day manager, helped run big promotions and events, and was the advisor for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Megan is excited to experience the college from the Admissions perspective, bringing her expertise in media and ambitious attitude to her new team.
- [Abby OBrien](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/abby-obrien-abby-obrien/): Abby graduated Summa Cum Laude from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine this past May where she studied in the Honors Program as an Elementary Education major and concentration in Special Education. During her time at Saint Joseph’s, Abby was a three sport varsity athlete and captain of the dance team, indoor and outdoor track and field teams. She also held numerous leadership positions including Class President, Resident Advisor, member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and of course, Student Ambassador and Admissions Assistant. She is looking forward to starting her new journey as a Graduate Assistant while continuing to spread spirit and joy in our community and Monk Nation.
- [Bill Cosentino](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/bill-cosentino/): After 8 years of serving as the Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach and Assistant Director of Athletics here at Saint Joseph’s College, Bill has moved across campus to work in the Admissions office. A lifelong educator, Bill has served as an elementary and middle school teacher. He has also coached a variety of sports at all levels. Bill is a dedicated professional in the leadership development world. He has worked for Velocity Performance consulting in the past and currently facilitates the Monk’s Leadership Academy here at Saint Joseph’s College. Bill is excited to work with Lynn and the Admissions team and guide future Monks through the application process, especially for students looking to transfer into SJC!
- [Lynn Brown](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/lynn-brown/): Lynn has spent her career as an educational leader at the high school and post-secondary levels, serving as a High School Counselor, Assistant Principal, and Career & College Placement Director. With deep roots, and strong ties at SJC; her prior work at Saint Joseph’s spans several areas, including the departments of Student Life, Success & Retention, Enrollment, and Student Financial Services.  She is honored and enthusiastic to now be leading the On Campus Admissions recruitment team.
- [Brandon Whitlock](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/brandon-whitlock/): Brandon is a 2021 graduate of Saint Joseph's College, where he studied Communications and got a minor in English. He is very excited to be back on the beautiful campus! While Brandon attended SJC, he was a captain of the Cross Country team and member of the Track & Field team. Throughout his time at Saint Joseph's College, he learned just how special the college was. As a current recruiter, he can't wait to share with prospective students his own individual experiences that made SJC so special. He hopes to help future students feel the same way he felt when he committed to SJC: excited, inspired and ready to make a difference. - [Julia Six](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/julia-six/): Julia Six’s professional experience includes teaching at Trivium School in Lancaster, Massachusetts, and DeSales University in Center Valley, Pennsylvania. She has also been homeschooling her children as well as teaching classes to other home-schooled students.
- [Julie Zink](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/julie-zink/): Julie Zink has served as an adjunct faculty member at Saint Joseph's College since 2007. During her time here, she has taught various communication and education courses at the graduate level including Intercultural Communication and Learning as well as Instructional Strategies. From 1988 to 2001, she taught at various colleges in the Mobile, Alabama area. In 2001, Julie left the University of Mobile as an associate professor and moved to Maine with her family. She is an avid MLB fan who tries to attend all major league parks in the country.

Collins is currently an HR regional manager and has held positions as coordinator of allotments, director of athletics, and as an assistant principal. She has a diverse background in the areas of curriculum and instruction, professional learning, athletics, special education, allotments, human resources, discipline.
- [Lori Thompson](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/lori-thompson/): Lori Thompson has been a college instructor for the past three years, both in a face-to-face format and distance learning. She’s worked as a high-risk dietitian for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program.
- [Donald Ladd](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/donal-ladd/): Donald Ladd has taught finance and accounting courses at area Universities and Colleges for over 15 years. He has worked in the finance and accounting field in both the profit and non-profit world for over 30 years. He has served the role of chief financial officer, director of finance, and staff accountant in varied industries. Currently, he also a consultant.
- [Debra Maddox](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/debra-maddox/): Debra L. Maddox has more than 40 years teaching experience at the K-12, vocational-technical, community college, and university undergraduate and graduate level. Currently she is retired from traditional teaching and teaches full-time online from home.
- [Claudia Santin](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/claudia-santin/): Dr. Claudia Santin, EdD, has, over the last 25 years, established a reputation as a pragmatic change agent and effective team builder. She has served in the capacity of university president and provost/academic vice president at Northcentral University. Under her leadership, the NCU School of Business received ACBSP accreditation.
- [Burt Reynolds](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/burt-reynolds/): Burt Reynolds is a seasoned organization effectiveness consultant with over 25  years of field experience both as an internal/external agent of change.
- [Fr. Louis J. Phillips](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/fr-louis-j-phillips/): Fr. Louis J. Phillips is currently the pastor of Sebago Lakes Region Parishes of St. Anthony, Westbrook; St. Anne, Gorham; and Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Windham, Maine. Prior to this assignment, he served as Interim Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Diocese of Portland; pastor of St. Joseph’s Church in Ellsworth, parochial vicar of the three Catholic parishes of Auburn, and director of St. Paul Retreat Center in Augusta. He served as a member of the building committee for the new St. Dominic’s High School in the Lewiston-Auburn area. He is also a member of the Diocese of Portland school board and a member of the Diocesan continuing education for clergy committee. 
- [Christopher Stone](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/christopher-stone/): Dr. Christopher Stone has been a central administrator with the Montour School District in Pittsburgh, PA since 2007. Prior to being promoted to central office in 2011, he had the privilege of serving as the principal at David E. Williams Middle School. Dr. Stone earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Duquesne University and his Doctorate degree from Robert Morris University. His dissertation focused on various supervision strategies for teachers and providing meaningful feedback. Dr. Stone is involved in various professional organizations which include PASCD, AASA, and NAESP.
- [Michele Riley](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/michele-riley/): Michele Riley, who earned her doctorate in American history and archaeology, has taught college courses all over the country.
- [Charles Carrozza](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/charles-carrozza/): Charles Carrozza, a licensed nursing home administrator, has been working in the not-for-profit health care field for more than 20 years. As the CFO of Penacook Place, a 160-bed long-term care facility located in Haverhill, Massachusetts, he has interacted with a variety of government agencies including Medicare, Medicaid, and HUD regarding rate issues, government audits, funding, and regulation issues.
- [Becky Urbanski](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/becky-urbanski/): Becky Urbanski is the senior vice president, mission integration and marketing at Benedictine Health System (BHS), a Catholic long-term care system based in Duluth, Minnesota. The system consists of more than 40 long-term care campuses with more than 70 facilities in seven Midwestern states. Urbanksi oversees the mission integration, marketing communications, and education departments. She is a member of the senior management team and has been a part of the Benedictine Health System ministry for 13 years.
- [Paul Larson](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/paul-w-larson/): Paul Larson went through the Army ROTC program at Alfred and that led him to his first significant work experience in different leadership capacities in a Nike Hercules Air Defense missile battery. After his Army experience, he spent several years in the paper industry working his way up from a production planner to the manager of a corrugated container plant.
- [Pat Watson](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/pat-watson/): Pat Watson has worked as a registered dietitian for more than 30 years. In addition to academics, her work experience encompasses public health, clinical dietetics, and food service both in the hospital and university settings. In 1998, she became a certified diabetes educator. In 2007, she completed Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management by the Commission of Dietetic Registration. She is a licensed Shapedown Provider, a family-based, pediatric obesity program developed by the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine.
- [Ann Cohen](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/ann-cohen/): Since 2004, when Ann Cohen first joined the faculty at Saint Joseph’s College, she has taught two undergraduate courses: ED 414: Teaching Methods in the Elementary Social Studies and ED 416: Teaching Methods in Secondary Social Studies, on campus and online. Since then, she has been teaching the following graduate courses at Saint Joseph’s College: ED 536: Educational Leadership,  ED 545: The American Public Education; ED 537: Staff Development; ED 600: the Capstone, and CAG ED 600: the Capstone. Cohen is a James Madison Fellow, a Library of Congress/American Memory Fellow, an Ada C. Leeke Fellow, a two-time NEH program participant, and an APUSH reader.
- [Sheila Fournier-Bonilla](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/sheila-d-fournier-bonilla/): Sheila Fournier-Bonilla is an academician with more than 15 years of experience teaching in onsite and online settings. She holds a BS and an MS degree in industrial and management engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a PhD in interdisciplinary engineering from Texas A&M University in College Station. While at Texas A&M, she taught introductory courses in fundamentals of engineering, professional development, and quality control and assurance. During her role as visiting professor, she was a primary researcher of Texas A&M’s National Science Foundation (NSF) Coalition Program, participating in the design, implementation, and assessment of the College of Engineering’s new curricula. She was later appointed assistant director to NSF’s Texas Alliance for Minority Participation (AMP) with an active participation in program evaluation and assessment. Her last positions have been as program director of graduate programs, PhD, and master's, where she has managed faculty and students worldwide, and built leading programs in business and technology.
- [Robin Traufler](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/robin-traufler/): Robin Traufler is a certified acute care nurse practitioner. Her practice areas as a registered nurse have all been in the critical care setting, ICU, CCU, and Cardiothoracic ICU. Her experience as an acute care nurse practitioner has been in the areas of heart failure, cardiovascular disease, nephrology, renal transplant and dialysis. She has been an actively practicing acute care nurse practitioner since 1997.
- [G. Scott Wakefield](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/g-scott-wakefield/): Dr. Wakefield has served in the military for 35 years, conducted Human Interaction Labs for NTL Institute, and has experience owning his own business. Upon retirement, he continued working with people. “My teaching approach is based on students' participation, linking behaviors and thoughts to evidence-based theory, all the while having fun as we learn.” Outside of work, he enjoys golf and tennis.
- [Jayne Rogers](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/jayne-rogers/): Jayne Rogers has over thirty-nine years of experience as a Registered Nurse in pediatric settings. She has been in nursing leadership positions for over thirty years. Jayne enjoys quilting, bicycling, and cooking.
- [Tanya Sleeper](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/tanya-sleeper/): Tanya Sleeper earned her ANCC certification as a geriatric nurse practitioner. She has served as the executive director of the Aroostook Home Health Services and is the current director of nursing for a long-term care home health care agency in Aroostook County, Maine. She has 8+ years teaching experience at the baccalaureate nursing education level and 17 years home health care experience. She is ANCC Certified as a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner, and has extensive community involvement serving on a number of Boards and Committees.
- [Ruthann Vaughan](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/ruthann-vaughan/): Ruthann Vaughan has been a nurse since 1968 and has functioned as a staff nurse, Coordinator of Nursing Staff Development and Quality, Director of Nursing Informatics, and Director of Nursing. She was an adjunct faculty member at Gwynedd-Mercy University in healthcare. Aside from teaching healthcare courses at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, she is also a student at the University of Phoenix for a PhD in Nursing. Her hobbies include reading, computer work and activities, and breast cancer support groups.
- [Thomas C. Dann](https://www.sjcme.edu/faculty-staff/thomas-c-dann/): Tom Dann teaches exercise science courses and is a member of both the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He has earned the distinctions of Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Health/Fitness Instructor (HFI). His interests are in both sports performance and fitness/wellness, and he has a longtime passion for running and coaching.

Managing forty to fifty patients daily has been equally challenging and rewarding for her. Outside of work, she enjoys running, camping, and cooking.

His career trajectory includes twelve years in institutional equity finance before transitioning into long-term healthcare in 2017. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Health Administration at St. Joseph's College of Maine.

I wanted to deepen my understanding of healthcare finance, strategy, and policy. After exploring several graduate programs, I chose the Master of Health Administration program at St. Joseph’s College of Maine because of its strong reputation, CAHME accreditation, instruction by experienced healthcare leaders, and flexible schedule.

I work as a Trauma CT/Radiology Technologist at a large trauma facility in Northern California. I am a wife and mother of three beautiful children. I have worked in the healthcare field for over 27 years. My passion and desire to want to learn and provide a higher and more efficient quality of care prompted me to seek higher education and go back to school. I recently graduated from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine in May 2025 with a Bachelors of Science in Radiology Administration. After completing that degree, I decided to continue on to the Master’s in Healthcare Administration Program at Saint Joseph’s, where I am currently a full-time student. In my free time, I enjoy attending sporting events, traveling, and outdoor activities. My goal is to contribute to meaningful improvements in healthcare delivery along with staff and patient outcomes."

I enjoy going to church, skiing, reading, working on my family’s 80 acre farm, and exhibiting livestock. I did dual enrollment all through high school. I was able to graduate from SMCC with an associates degree in business administration in December 2024. From there, I went on to get my bachelors degree in business with a focus on accounting from St. Joseph’s. St. Joseph’s program was fantastic. Everyone there was extremely helpful by guiding me towards my goals. St. Joseph’s has prepared me to go on and get my master’s in accounting sciences from UConn. I hope to one day get my CPA license. St. Joseph’s has been an amazing experience; I feel blessed and prepared for my next steps in life!"
