Saint Joseph’s College of Maine has announced that Troy Hendricks will serve as its next Assistant Director and Associate Head Coach for Cross Country and Track & Field. Hendricks succeeds Tom Dann, who served with the Monks’ cross country and track and field programs for twenty-six years. During Dann’s career in Standish, he guided the women’s cross country program to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championships in 2007 and 2008 and was named as conference coach of the year five times.
A native of Hiram, Maine, Hendricks entered Saint Joseph’s College after a stellar academic and running career at Sacopee Valley High School. He graduated from Saint Joseph’s College in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in communication and earned an impressive 3.94 grade point average in the process. Hendricks competed in cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field for four years as a Monk and was a team captain in all three sports. He also worked in the sports information as an intern and served as president of the campus Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. In 2024 Hendricks earned an MBA in leadership from Saint Joseph’s.
In his career competing for the Royal Blue, Hendricks placed as the Monks' top finisher in 31 of 33 cross country events in which he competed. He was named as a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Cross Country All-Conference team each year and won the 2023 individual GNAC harrier title on his home course. For his efforts, he was named GNAC Runner of the Year. The 2022 GNAC Man of the Year, Hendricks was also selected by the SJC athletic department as his class’s Male Athlete of the Year and was the recipient of the Neile Nelson Award for his high level of commitment to his team while performing a leadership role within the Saint Joseph's College campus community.
In August of 2023, Hendricks was appointed as an assistant coach for cross country and track and field at this alma mater. For the past year, he has also served as the manager of the campus Career Studio and has assisted in various sports information projects.
“Troy Hendricks brings the perfect mix of passion, enthusiasm, and commitment necessary to be successful in this new role ,” states Saint Joseph’s College of Maine interim athletic director Gary Stevens. “He cares deeply about Saint Joseph’s College and its student-athletes. He has excelled in the sport of running as a participant and a coach and is a natural fit. Through both the power of his example and his understanding of the college’s mission, he will continue the tradition of excellence that encompasses our program.”
Hendricks is excited about the challenge and embraces his new role with the college. “Cross country and track & field have been a huge part of my life,” he notes. “To coach at Saint Joseph’s, a place that means so much to me, is a dream come true.” Observing the legacy of the program, he adds, “To follow in Coach Dann’s footsteps, I could not ask for a better opportunity.”
