BBall AbroadTwo former Saint Joseph’s basketball players have taken their passion for the game overseas. Chris Petzy ’12 and Meg Daigle ’11 spent the summer coaching basketball to youth through the Drive School of Basketball in Kazakhstan.

Based out of Almaty, Kazakhstan, Drive is an intensive training program for basketball players from ages 11 to 18.

“Drive aims to transform Kazakh youth into leaders through discipline, love, education, and integrity,” says Daigle.

She and Petzy began volunteering as coaches for Drive in mid-June of 2014. Both former Monks basketball players who have been dating since 2008, they jumped at the opportunity to coach together.

“I’ve loved basketball all my life,” says Petzy. “I wanted to make sure it stayed a part of my life in some way, whether playing or coaching.”

When not coaching, Petzy is a business graduate student at Oxford Brookes University in England, and Daigle is studying to become a family nurse practitioner. To read more about their experience with the Drive School of Basketball, visit their blog: blogs.sjcme.edu/basketballabroad.
