Pre-Veterinary
Students majoring in the Pre-Veterinary Track will be prepares for graduate and professional work in the veterinary field. Working one-on-one with a faculty advisor allows students to carefully craft their course selections, participate in field experiences and internships, and conduct discipline-specific research in their senior capstone course. Our students graduate with the capacity to integrate new and pre-existing knowledge, keenly observe the world around them, and exhibit self-discipline and critical thinking skills. Combined, these tools help our graduates pursue careers in veterinary medicine.

Dr. Nicole Porier '15, DVM
“As a new equine veterinarian, I often reflect on my time spent at SJC. I feel very fortunate for the ability to really dive into research avenues within the science department. I worked closely with Dr. Emily Lesher looking into Selenium absorption in horses, and with Dr. James Paruk on loon migration patterns. Both opportunities together truly sparked my curiosity and opened my eyes to the world of research. I felt very supported by the faculty as well as the science department as they constantly encouraged my professional endeavors. The small classroom environment allowed for personalized attention and connection with faculty. These have been long standing relationships that I have held throughout the years. The pre-veterinary program at SJC gave me a well-rounded and strong academic foundation that I needed, not only for my veterinary school application, but also provided me with tools that I often use in my career as an equine veterinarian.”
