Pre-Optometry
This curriculum prepares Pre-Optometry Track students for future graduate and professional work in the field of optometry. Working one-on-one with a faculty advisor allows students to carefully craft their course selections, participate in field experiences and internships, and conduct discipline-specific research in their senior capstone course. Our students graduate with the capacity to integrate new and pre-existing knowledge, keenly observe the world around them, and exhibit self-discipline and critical thinking skills.
Doctor of Optometry Affiliation Agreement: Saint Joseph’s College has an articulation agreement with the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Elkins Park, PA, to offer a 3+4 cooperative program in Biology/Pre-Optometry. “I grew up in an area where access to adequate health care is a luxury. Too many times, I have witnessed serious health problems and loss of life due to the lack of proper medical care and limited access to medical facilities. When it came time to choose a college with a direct track to medical school and whose values aid in the development of healthier communities, I am grateful I chose Saint Joseph's College of Maine. The education was incredibly relevant in preparing one for medical school. The faculty works closely with students to put them in the best position to succeed moving forward.”
