Anita S. Charles teaches in the MSEd program, including a week-long summer symposium on autism. She has been teaching for more than 25 years and has taught students of almost every age and ability level. She began her career teaching disadvantaged first-graders in Jersey City, New Jersey. She then taught French and English at an independent 8–12 boarding school in Maine. More recently, she taught English at Deering High School in Portland, where she also co-advised the Academic Decathlon team and student literary magazine.
She has extensive experience working with at-risk youth, including time spent at the Longcreek Correctional Facility. She has also taught adults in various settings, including teacher workshops around the state, and summer sessions at Saint Joseph’s College.
Anita has published several works, including articles and a book chapter about her first year of teaching. She enjoys reading, writing, and spending time with her husband and five children.
