Since 2014, three generations of the Rairdon family has been working tirelessly with the help of the Westbrook community to raise funds for the scholarship that honors the memory of nursing graduate, Matthew Rairdon, Class of 2013. Matthew lost his life tragically just as he was beginning his career at Mercy Hospital. Matthew’s parents, grandparents, brother and sisters have all run, walked, cheered, and handed out water bottles to the hundreds of runners who have participated in the annual 5k. This year, the youngest and newest member of the family, Maya, joined her grandparents in presenting the largest contribution yet to the College for the scholarship--$22,500. This contribution brings the corpus of the scholarship to nearly $132,000. The Rairdon Scholarship has assisted 5 students, and over $10,000 has been awarded to date. Maya invites all walkers and runners to join her on July 18, 2020, for the 7th Annual Matthew Rairdon 5K. She will be running the Kids’ Matt’s Mile while you warm up for the longer race!
