The Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society held their 31st Annual Induction Ceremony in October on the University of Southern Maine (USM) campus and inducted 22 nurses from Saint Joseph's College of Maine, as well as from Maine Medical Center, University of New England, and USM.

Sigma Theta Tau International recognizes and supports the value of scholarship and excellence in nursing practice through education, leadership, research and scholarship. To be eligible for Sigma Theta Tau membership, students must be an undergraduate senior or junior level (only the top two students at the junior level) and have a 3.5 or higher GPA.  In online programs RN to BSN or MSN students must have progressed more than half way through the program and have a 3.5 or higher GPA.
Assistant Professor of Nursing Suzanne Parkman said, "By being inducted, our students have demonstrated excellence in scholarship. This is a very high achievement, especially since nursing is such a demanding and rigorous major. On behalf of the SJC nursing faculty, we are very proud of our students."

About Nursing at Saint Joseph's College of Maine

The Saint Joseph’s College of Maine nursing program has achieved the highest–100%–pass rate of licensing exams for students in a BSN nursing program in the State of Maine. For calendar year 2018, SJC nursing graduates achieved a 100 percent pass rate of NCLEX. The nursing program has enjoyed dramatic improvement in pass rates under the new leadership of Dr. Anthony McGuire, PhD, CCRN-K, ACNP-BC, FAHA. Since arriving in 2016, Dr. McGuire restructured the College’s nursing programs and elevated the level of workforce preparedness of its nursing graduates.

Saint Joseph’s College of Maine offers: an on-campus BSN, an online RN to BSN, an RN to MSN Fast Track, online graduate programs for FNP, nursing administration, nursing education, and two dual degrees for MSN/MBA and MSN/MHA. In August 2018, Saint Joseph’s College also launched Maine’s first Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program (MSN and post-master’s certificate).

The nursing program intersects with other strong academic programs related to public health at Saint Joseph’s College including: scienceswellness, and exercise science.

A campaign is currently raising funds for the creation of the new Center for Nursing Innovation at Saint Joseph’s College.
